Martha Stewart’s Dog Dies of Renal Failure

Celebrity dog Paw Paw regularly appeared on Stewart’s TV shows and in her magazine.

Posted: April 17, 2008, 5 a.m. EST

Paw Paw, Martha Stewart’s Chow Chow, has died of renal failure at the age of almost 13.

Stewart announced Paw Paw’s April 12 death in her blog, which contains photos of the 60-pound dog’s last days, as well as his final resting place at Stewart’s Bedford, N.Y., farm.

“Paw Paw was a spectacular Chow and an even more spectacular dog,” Stewart wrote. “He was always my loyal companion, displaying the most agreeable temperament.”

Paw Paw, whose full name was Kublai Khan Paw Paw Chow Chow Chow, was a frequent guest on Stewart’s TV shows and appeared regularly in her magazines and in several national print ads.

“Paw Paw loved traveling with me and was always a willing model for the camera,” Stewart says. “He was the only pet I ever had, with the exception of Blue Maximilian Chow Chow Chow, who was never disobedient, and never, ever, required me to raise my voice.”

During his final days, Paw Paw would drift off into deep sleeps “where he now rests peacefully, and, I’m most confident, quite happily,” Stewart says. “I will miss him, always.”
