One of the most important factors in training a young pup is to give him a name. Jack once was a great name for the PRTthough today it seems that owners are a bit more creative! Sometimes it may take a week or so before you find a name that fits the dog. Other times, you will have the pup named before you even bring him home. In general, short one- or two-syllable names are the easiest for the purposes of training. Its easy to say, Heel, Nipper or Down, Captain. Its not so easy to say Off, Methuselah or Roll over, Beethoven. You want a name that not only fits the personality of the dog but one that fits the breed itself (though its not much easier to say Roll over Vaughn-Williams!). If you pick a sensible, easy name, your dog will quickly know that you are talking about him.
